A Tale of Two Lakes

Once again on Tuesday I was up early to make the most of the calm conditions. First stop out at Lake Burrumbeet where the early light on Mt Callender was quite striking set against a perfectly calm surface. Once I was back in Ballarat I decided to grab some images of the rowers on Lake Wendouree. It looks to be a big week of rowing with all the school crews gearing up for the new doing season, so there was plenty to work with.

Sunday Evening at the Station

Not content with Sundays spectacular sunrise at Lake Wendouree, on Sunday evening I made the most of the great, calm conditions to have a fly over the Ballarat Railway Station. Though I captured some great images of the station, I looked around a bit and was really pleased with this set. I see a new project developing here!

Baled Up

On Monday morning I was out around Windermere again, and this field of newly harvested bales offered some nice patterns and textures. I was looking to photograph a particular paddock that's on my to-do list, however the wind was a bit too strong.  This field offered a pretty nice compromise!

Sunday Sky Show

There were some incredibly intense colours on Sunday morning from the spectacular sunrise that lit up the sky above Lake Wendouree. It's always amazing the range of colours you get from well before the sunrise til the time the sun actually breaks the horizon. You have no idea from ground level of the channels that lead through the reed beds on the lake...so this is how it looks from above. Once the sun had risen there was some great light that worked well with this series. The last one here is actually the first one taken this morning, from ground level. This stand of trees is always catching my eye, and I have photographed it a number times.

A Burrmubeet Beauty!

On Saturday evening I was out at Lake Burrumbeet. Initially, things looked pretty average and though I captured a couple of images I thought would work out OK, it was after changing locations that things really started to happen. This series is from the main "beach" part of the shoreline, and though the colour started off slowly, it just kept building into something quite spectacular. And its always nice to have a few birds in the mix, too!

An Arch and a Wobble

On Friday evening here in Ballarat, with no clouds to be seen, I visited a couple of local sites. First up was out west of the city at the Arch of Victory. Always a strong  subject, I was pleased with the angle here that enabled me to capture the flag in the same frame, and the completely clear sky really helps focus your ttention on the arch itself. 
After this I ended up watching the sun set from the top of the Black Hill lookout. It was nothing especially different to some images I captured a few weeks go until just before the sun made it to the horizon, something in the atmosphere caused this wobble. It was very similar to a full moon rising I had captured last July and quite strange to watch.

Following the Light

On Thursday evening I was out following the clouds to see what I could find. Initially they led me to Learmonth and this first wide panorama, before a stop on the totally dry Lake Learmonth. Since my last visit here the local community have put up these great flying pelicans that follow the direction of the wind and captured against the spectacular sky they really looked fantastic. Another quick stop for another panorama looking across the lake bed, before heading south through Windermere down to a last burst of light at Cardigan. Not a bad set for just cruising around!
