East Morning, West Evening

I had a couple of trips around the district on Saturday. First it was out east to Mt Warrenheip when I spotted some low lying clouds around the peak at 9am, so rather than head off to do the groceries, I dashed out there just in time to catch the last tendrils of mist  before it burned away.
Later in the day I was out west of Ballarat on the north east corner of Lake Burrumbeet where a cloudless sky put on a nice show on the mildest day we've had for quite some time.

Foggy Friday Find

A quick visit out to Clarkes Hill on Friday morning was quite a surprise. In Ballarat all was clear, however once you get out past Brown Hill and start to get a bit of elevation you often find a huge change as the fog really comes in and settles the higher up you get. I managed to capture a few images, this one I liked with the sun trying its hardest to burn its way through the fog.

Bald Hills Drama

On Thursday I headed out north of Ballarat to the Bald Hills, only about 20 minutes away. There were some interesting skies out that way and it looked like it was the only direction worth heading with any potential. I was on the north side of the hills, up quite high where you get some great long distance views and the clouds were spectacular! As it was quite windy they were moving through quickly creating some incredible drama and though there was no direct sunlight, you could see the sun was getting in amongst the clouds up high to create some amazing formations. I had a full 180 degree view and every direction had something going on - it was fantastic!

Its Only Taken 70 Years!

I went out to Daylesford on Wednesday afternoon and caught this rainbow near Newlyn. Probably the coldest day we've had so far, though once again it creates some nice photographic conditions. And just as I was getting back into Ballarat around 5.15pm, the sun was breaking through with some bright, golden, warming light, just as I passed through Black Hill, so I ducked up to the lookout and caught his south west view across Ballarat. Funny thing was I was surfing around this morning before putting this post up, and came acres a similar view from the same spot from 1945 - those trees have really grown up over the last 70 years!

Some Simple Colour Captures

On my run around Lake Wendouree on Tuesday afternoon I noticed some nice colours around in the Fairyland area on the west side of the lake. Even though it was pretty cold, later in the day I took myself with camera to the same spot to see what I could find. The swamp cypress trees are nearing peak colour and with numerous leaves floating around I found a couple worth capturing. It always amazes me how I can keep finding things to photograph in a locations that are so often visited.

Monday Moods

On a grey Monday a quick trip out to Lake Burrumbeet was rewarded with just enough colour in the sky to keep me happy. The forecast is similar for a few days - it certainly feels like we have moved into winter very quickly, though I find its often on these sorts of days that you can get some great conditions if you get yourself out there amongst it. All it takes is a good coat and scarf........

Amazing Nature

Came across these 2 images from our USA trips that were taken a long way part, but had some amazing similarities....nature is an amazing creator!
On the left is an alligator from down in Everglades National Park Florida, and the right is the Medano Creek at Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado - amazing don't you think?
