Foggy Lake Wendouree

Had a fantastic foggy start to the day on Saturday morning after all the rain through the week...here's a quick view of the Fly Fishers Clubrooms just after 5.30am. Many great shots coming soon....

After the rain

Overnight Thursday there was a huge storm and plenty of rain in Ballarat, and many other areas of Victoria. Spent some time at the Lake this morning inspecting the aftermath...heres a couple.....

Buninyong to Burrumbeet

After very heavy, steady rain all night and morning, Wednesday finally cleared after lunch so about 2 I went to the lookout at Mt Buninyong. With all the rain the last few months, and especially the last few days, everyting is really green, and some nice breaks in the clouds helped as well.
Then last night I was actually on the top of Black Hill lookout here in Ballarat about 8pm and looked across to the Waubra windfarm area and could see these clouds hanging around the hills over there so jumped back in the car and raced over. Got some terrific pre-sunset light and then the whole sky fired up. Made up a webpage for this lot if you want to see a few more....

From the archives...

Well finally had a day with nothing new. It rained pretty much all day Tuesday so I went back to some pics from 29th December. A long hike across paddocks to the mouth of the Burrumbeet Creek was rewarded with a spectacular sunset. My initial reaction at the time was to head home after walking down to the lakes overlook as the sky wasn't too promising, but decided to hang around and see what developed. 
Just found out recently that the beam in the last shot is called a sun pillar.

Another day, another sunset......

After raining most of the day, there was a nice end to the day up at the Lake. Fast moving clouds kept on opening up some nice holes in the sky to create some very nice conditions.

Sunday afternoon

Went for a drive down to Lal Lal, about 30  minutes south on the way to Geelong. I visited Lal Lal Falls back in October, but have wanted to go back and do the 5km round trip hike to Moorabool Falls. Even though this track was only officially opened back in late 2008 it obviously doesn't get much use and is very overgrown. But its a pretty easy hike and the end result was well worth the effort. Would be even better today (Monday) as its been raining all day. Definately worth another visit as there are some other falls - Granite Falls - to find.

And then after grey skies all day a last final hurrah at the Lake about 8.50.

Saturday at the Lake

Cloudy all day, but by mid afternoon the clouds got quite interesting. And then it just greyed up for the rest of day, but at about 8.40 I noticed a bit of pink in the sky so dashed up to catch an excellent sunset. That large lump in the water next to the jetty is swan with its head buried below the surface!
