BIrding

There was a bit of colour in the sky on Sunday morning, however it was the birds that had my attention, especially a huge flock of cockatoos. The first one here gives a good idea of the mass with a lovely pink sky behind them looking to the west. Then when the sun had risen it cast a lovely warm glow over the birds. By looking directly up I was able to capture the moon as part of the scene, too. The last one shows a few of the gulls trying to get in on the action.

Tassie Time

It's taken me a few days and finally I'm getting into the Tasmania images. We flew to Flinders Island from Essendon Airport and I managed evening and sunrise shoots at Killiekrankie before we made the big trip across Bass Strait to the main destination on the trip - Erith Island. I've included a map here to show you how remote this spot is...right in the middle of Bass Strait.
We left from Palana on the north west of Flinders Island at around 4.50 am for the 2 hour trip - the last image here shows the boat just after dropping us off for our 9 day visit to the island.
Erith Island is part of the Kent Group National Park and unless you have your own boat, or know someone who has, it's a very difficult place to get to.....and as you will see soon well worth the effort.

Saturday Sunrise

Some great conditions on Saturday morning out west of Ballarat at Lake Burrumbeet. From the north west corner you get a great high view of the lake and with colour like this I was happy to make an initial stop here. After this I went down onto the shoreline where the conditions were totally different, finding myself buried in the foggy conditions where I captured a very different set of images.

Just Another Day at the Lake

Quite a range of images on Friday from Lake Wendouree here in Ballarat. Started with some nice light looking across to the Yacht Club, and then a bit of rain produced a brief rainbow. And to end the day this couple were enjoying a smoke-induced sunset from all the local farm burn-offs taking place this time of year.

Foggy Fun

A fantastic welcome back to the Ballarat district on Thursday morning with a great foggy morning. I headed out to Mt Warrenheip after a stop in Sturt Street where I caught this image of the Ballarat Mechanics Institute looking quite spectacular. The fog in town was really thick and I thought if I headed out to some higher ground at Mt Warrenheip I may get up above the layer of low lying fog. As you can see that's exactly how it turned out for some great images.

A Slice of Baker's Beach

Whilst I sort through all the amazing images from the Tassie trip, I'll post a few random images. We saw a lot of water and coastlines on this trip, this view of a setting sun was at Narawntapu National Park in northern Tasmania along the famed Bakers beach....

You Don't See This Every Day!

I'm back from a fantastic time in Tasmania. Amazing trip, amazing photos to come. I thought I'd start with what might be the most unusual..... a half submerged tractor at dawn on Puncheon Island in Bass Strait!
