I've had a friend down from up north for a quick visit and on Wednesday afternoon we took a drive over to Loddon Falls near Glenlyon. It was pleasing to see the recent rain gave us some pretty good flow to play around with down at water level and it was great to be standing in front of a waterfall again! One colour and one black and white image to share.
And we had a cracker of a morning today........!

Smile!
Here’s a couple more from Monday nights visit to Lake Burrumbeet. I actually took these two before the previous images just as the sun broke through to light up the scene. I took a dozen or so pics of this scene and in everyone of them that seagull in the middle was standing on the one foot!

The Rocks and Reeds
When I left home late Monday evening I could see a big gap on the horizon out to the west that promised a pretty good sunset. And whilst the pinks and purples didn't eventuate, it was still a nice view at Lake Burrumbeet down amongst the reeds and rocks. Pretty chilly at the moment...is this really Summer? Bring back November, it was much warmer!

It Was 10 Years Ago Today......
It was 10 years ago today, the 4th of December 2007, that I put down as the day I realised I wanted to take landscape photographs. Debbie and I were on our first of what was to become regular trips to the USA. I had purchased a pretty fancy video camera for the trip with no intentions for still photography. We had been in the States for a few days by now, the main initial plan was so that I could run the Death Valley marathon. After that we had a day and night in Las Vegas and from there we headed up to Utah and into Zion National Park. I was overwhelmed by the scenery there, never having seen anything like this before and I knew that I wanted to capture it. So, realising the video camera also had a function that allowed me to take still images, I switched into that mode for the trip...and the rest is history!
So today I thought I would put together a gallery of images from the five trips we have made to Zion National Park. You will see from these why it made such a big impression...and a desire to keep returning.
First up is from that first visit when the reflected light off the amazing cliffs in the Virgin River was to become a remarkably familiar sight.
On to May 2009 for our 2nd visit when some great light above the Court of the Patriarchs, and then a week or so later on the same trip, we popped in for another visit where I captured some great light through the cottonwood trees that the park is so well known for.
In early 2013 after visiting Hawaii, we headed back to the mainland for the classic view of the Virgin River at sunset.......it gets very busy at this spot every night, for obvious reasons! A hike on that trip to the Emerald Pools also created something pretty nice with reflections off the canyon walls once again adding a unique colour palette to the scene.
After our first trip to Alaska in August 2014, we once again added some extra travel time lower south in the USA where we were able to take in one of the classic Zion hikes..into the Narrows where the Virgin River has cut its way through the sandstone to create this amazing vista.
Our last visit to Zion was in April 2016, and though this was a quick one night visit to meet up with some friends from Arizona, I was still able to catch the Watchman under the stars. It's nice when you can get a view like this only about 30 metres fro your campsite!
Whilst searching out the images for this post I realised how many unseen images I have of this amazing place...maybe another book may be on the cards?!

A Touch of Green
No where near the rain has fallen as had been forecast, though overall Saturday was one of the greyest days I can remember. I was out looking for any signs of flowing water and this spot on the Bo Peep Creek at least had a nice bit of colour to brighten the day.

A Fine (for Photography!) Forecast
The forecast for Friday was pretty grim with massive rainfall predicted. However after some early morning rain I feel we got off pretty lightly here in Ballarat. This series is from just before dawn when the light takes on a distinct blue hue, this image on the north side of Lake Wendouree looking across to a couple of the School boat sheds. A bit later on after driving back around the Lake I could see the view to the north looked promising, so I grabbed a few images from St Pat's Point as a huge front moved across from west to east. And I had to move very quickly to get back to the car before copping a drenching! The rest of the day was mostly grey with very little of the forecast rain....though there is still more forecast for the rest of the weekend.
