Bo Peep Creek, At Last!

For the third evening in a row I headed out to Bo Peep. Whilst the trees I've been posting over the last couple of days haven't been my main target, they continue to offer some great images.
My main reason for heading out here lately is to spend some time on the Bo Peep Creek. With the great rain we had on Sunday night, the creek really took off again and last night I finally captured an image worth sharing. I could almost convince you I took this one down in Tasmania.....however its only about 20 minutes from home!
And as the moon gets fuller it continues to offer some great images with the trees and one lone cow.

Underground in Tasmania

On our first day our first stop in Tasmania was to visit the caves in Mole Creek Karst National Park. There are a number of caves dotted around this part of this world and we decided to do the Marakoopa Cave tour. This cave had inly recently re-opened after the massive floods from June last year...apparently they had to remove tonnes of debris littered throughout the cave and the nearby surrounds. We have visited many caves in the USA and it was nice to get back underground. It's always hard to give an idea of the experience through photographs and its also quite a challenge in the dark conditions you are faced with.

What a Difference a Day Makes

On Tuesday evening I was back out at Bo Peep where the 2 trees I often visit were crowned by the moon. A vast change from the night before when I captured the moon making a very brief appearance at the end of that amazing sunset.

Tassie Waterfall No. 1

On our first day in Tasmania, after flying into Launceston in the morning, we headed west to Mole Creek where we camped the first night in a nice little campground. Saw our first, and only, platypus that night by the light of our torches just a few meters from the tent!). Close by is the Mole Creek Karst National Park where we made a visit to the well known caves. (More on that later!). That evening I was keen to visit my first waterfall for the trip just south of town called Westmorland Falls. This area had received huge flooding rain back in June 2016 and there was a lot of evidence of the damage left behind. However I was still able to capture some nice images of this lovely waterfall to add to my growing collection of waterfalls.

Insane Sunset

After some great rain overnight Sunday (36mm), on Monday late in the evening I headed out to Lake Burrumbeet. As I passed by the Burrumbeet Creek I noticed the water levels were well up so I decided to head down to the Bo Peep Creek that feeds into the lake. By this time the sun had sunk below a bank of clouds suggesting a big sunset was not likely. After playing around in the creek for a while I noticed some nice clouds building up in the east suggesting we might get a nice reverse sunset. Being well placed to my Bo Peep trees I then experienced an amazing burst of colour and cloud formations. Starting with the yellows by the end the reds had taken over and the whole eastern sky was ablaze. Just goes to show the sunset is not always where you expect it to be!
And just for good measure...one image from the creek. These green rocks are actually below the surface creating a really nice almost abstract image.

Before the Dawn

I was going to start posting images from Tasmania in chronological order, however when I came across this image I changed my mind!
This is before dawn in the Bay of Fires in the  north east ... it was actually the first image I captured this morning on the last full day we had on this trip. We were camping just a few minutes walk away and I knew that with some good clouds this spot would be worth a visit. I did visit here the night before, and hung around well after this was taken and have a huge gallery of images from just this one spot.
The slow shutter speed added a surreal feel to the clouds skidding through, and the waves along the shoreline. Just one of the many special experiences from this trip.

Tasmania to Ballarat

I'm back in Ballarat after a fantastic time in Tasmania. I've got so many amazing images to go through I don't know where to start! So just a quick set from Sunday.
First up is this lovely rainbow as we walked across the tarmac in Launceston just on sunrise...perhaps trying to tempt me to stay?!
And back in Ballarat a grey and very wet day across the city...perhaps telling me I should have stayed down south?!
