The Ghost Trees of Lal Lal

Early Friday morning I found a nice view at Lal Lal Reservoir. These dead trees that line the shore look to have been bleached by the sun and have taken on an almost ghost-like appearance. With the greens of the trees and reflected blue sky, it creates quite a stunning scene. I think a closer inspection on another visit may be on the cards!

East and West

On Thursday morning I took a photographer friend from Melbourne out to the west side of Lake Burrumbeet for what turned out to be a fantastic morning. I have been to this spot many times, however I've never seen it this full. These trees are now on their own island, creating many new possibilities. Once the sun had risen we got to watch an epic storm move in from the west bringing some fantastic cloud formations and beautiful light...and not to forget the rainbow into the mix!
And just for good measure...some great mammatus clouds from the backyard later in the morning.

Harvest Time

I had a great time on Wednesday evening with a fellow photographer from Melbourne. I had teed up a visit to a local canola farm at Bo Peep to catch the big harvester at work and we had some great conditions to work with. It's great to get up close to these huge machines...usually I'm just viewing them from the paddock fence line!

Walls of Water

Not a cloud to be seen on Tuesday evening, so I had to come up with my own atmospherics. And I knew exactly where to go to find some rainbows! At this time of the year the potato crops around the district are really getting under way and many of them are being watered by the huge irrigators you see spread across the paddocks. My favourite area for this is out around Dean and Mollongghip where it doesn't take long to find them. Placing your self in the right position guarantees a rainbow...and they always look great set against the setting sun. Whilst I captured a range of images I thought this set of almost abstracts were a bit different from what I've posted in the past.

Feed Time

On Monday evening I headed west and ended up in Dobsons Lane on the west side of Lake Burrumbeet. There are plenty of bales around at the moment and these 2 rows of them seemed to have a huge attraction to the sheep as they were literally lining up to have a go at them...though this one sheep was giving me the stare! Though there was not much in the way of clouds to work with, this view of a windmill was helped by the new crescent moon and 2 eagles that were just sitting in the sky for a really long time, floating on the updrafts.

A Soft Start

A gentle start to the New Year. Last year I had a spectacular sunrise at Lake Wendouree, for 2017 some soft, misty conditions at Mt Warrenheip at dawn were a welcome break from the warm weather we have been having. Whilst a lot of the local landscape has been drying out, there is still some lovely greenery on the sides of the mountain, add in the mist and you feel like you could miles away.
