Right On Queue!

Once again on Saturday morning I was up early and out east of Ballarat around Millbrook. There was just a touch of colour building on the horizon and I remembered this nice rail overpass out that way that gave me a chance to work with the rail lines, and right on queue a train came through to add some action into the image. Black Hill, which overshadows Gordon, was also looking nice with a receding crescent moon sitting high above the hill.
Late in the day the sky put on quite a show at Lake Wendouree and I found a nice spot at St Pats Point where a couple of cormorants were sitting, seemingly reluctant to leave. And just to top it all off a couple of swans glided in, once again, right on queue!

The Sculpture plus......

Here's some extra images from Friday's great morning. On Thursday we had a very calm, almost warm day....and I noticed the air was full of floating cob webs. The next morning I found this great "sculpture", something I could almost see in a gallery on display. And a lone pelican had decided to leave the flock for a solo glide along the waters surface.
And something a bit out of the norm for me....caught this just coming back into Ballarat off the freeway where the low lying fog had created something quite unexpected for a Ballarat view.

Foggy Friday Fun

Once again on Friday I was up early chasing the sun and fog, and this time out at Lake Burrumbeet I was treated to some fantastic conditions on a chilly, but calm, minus 2 degrees. A quick stop to grab some colour above the wind farm up north, and then the sunrise across the lake, though before that this fantastic swan parade caught my eye.....I counted 20 swans in this line and I was there just in time before they headed off out into the lake to be buried on the ever increasing fog. I've got some more I'll post later as this was a morning that offered so much to capture. And make sure you click on these for a bigger look!

Powerline Road

On Thursday morning I was out again chasing the foggy sunrise, and ended up along a dirt road I have never been down before at Yendon. Though the fogs were not that thick, I still came home with a nice selection, and it will certainly be a location I now have under my belt for future shoots.
And the sunset out at a very calm Lake Burrumbeet wasn't too bad, either!

Chasing the Fog

I was out chasing the fog again on Wednesday morning, and though there was nothing too dramatic, I still managed to find some nice images out around Tourello and Mt Beckworth.
Though these winter mornings are pretty cold, with another heavy frost on the car to scrape off before I could head off, the good side is that with sunrise not coming til after 7.30am at least you don't have to get up too early!
Maybe Thursday will have some more interesting fogs to work with.....! ;)

Early Start, Late Finish

I was out early on Tuesday morning hoping for some nice conditions as an early glance out the window before dawn showed some promise with some nice colour forming. However, it quickly turned into low lying clouds and fog. Fortunately I was in a great place to catch the sun trying to break free out at Clarkes Hill,  looking across to Mollingghip.
Later in the day a quick visit up to Lake Wendouree for the sunset worked out nicely with this image of the St Therese of the Little Flower church that sits at the end of the rowing course.

Colourful Cruising

On Monday afternoon a cruise north of Ballarat had me stopping at a number of spots to catch the sun lighting up the countryside. Just north of the freeway on the road to Creswick is a nice pile of mullock that often catches my eye, especially when the light is this nice. Then a lot further north out at Lawrence this view across the Birchs Creek Valley also tempted me to pull over for a few minutes. A big loop around Allandale West on a few dirt backroads also paid off as I caught a couple of nice views just as the sun was about to fall below a large bank of clouds.

Snow Time

It's been a while since my last post. We had a fantastic snow event last Saturday here around Mt Roland and Sheffield and of course I wa...
