Lake Wendouree Wandering

On Wednesday I wandered up to Lake Wendouree to see if the sunset would produce anything of note, and in fact it was quite a nice one. I had the camera set for long exposures to add some nice blur to the water and sky and this pair are my favourites.
I did make a trip out to Dean and Clarkes Hill around 10am as there were some nice, dark, threatening clouds around.........I'll post a couple of those later on...one showing a particularly nice canola field.

Changing Directions

On Tuesday evening I was heading out to Lake Learmonth, however when I made it out of Ballarat I realised the better looking clouds were a bit further south around Lake Burrumbeet. I decided to visit a part of the lake right up in the north east corner that involved a bit of hiking across some dry flatlands before you get to the water. It turned out to be a great choice as I came across this spoonbill  standing in the water and with the sun getting low behind him the light was really nice. There were some nice views all-round, and by the time I was back to the car and heading home the sky continued to light up, well away from the actual sunset direction...I like to call these reverse sunsets - always remember to look behind you when shooting sunsets!

The Sun's Return

After a very grey weekend it was great to have some sun back on Monday....and a trip out to Lake Burrumbeet enabled me to make the most of it.Once again plenty of pelicans around (no sign of Santa!) ... this group were having a bit of a punch up, probably over fish!

Season's Greetings 2014

Back on the 30th November, you may remember I had a fantastic sunset out at Lake Burrumbeet. I was going through the images again, and came across this one I missed........getting in some early deliveries, I expect!

Another Great Grey Day

Sunday was a continuation of Saturday's grey, damp conditions. This time I headed down to Mt Buninyong to see how misty it was there - very! These sort of conditions are always nice to be in amongst and though I've been here many times in similar conditions I was pleased to find something a little different with the low down reflection image.

The Colours of Mt Warrenheip

It almost feels as if we are back in winter here after a cold, dreary day here in Ballarat on Saturday. It didn't stop me from finding a nice series from the slopes of Mt Warrenheip where this sort of weather always brings in the low lying mist around the top of the mountain. I found a nice collection of different plants that worked well with the misty atmosphere. Don't let miserable weather put you off your photography ..... there is always something you can find in all conditions.

Long and Narrow

Here's a couple of long, narrow, vertical panoramas from the recent Alaska/Western USA trip...seems like a long time ago now. First up is from the amazing day we spent in Katmai National Park and Preserve with the bears, and then almost at the end of the trip in Zion National Park in Utah. As you can see there are some striking similarities in these 2 images.
