Ended Grey, Started Pink and Purple

After a very colourful few days, on Wednesday afternoon it turned grey and murky. Lake Burrumbeet is actually quite a good place to visit in such conditions as the water and rocks can create quite surreal effects, especially as this image was shot on a very slow shutter speed, around 25 seconds to really smooth out the water. And though the day did end without any colour, we actually had a pretty colourful start, as we did on Tuesday as well...so heres a couple for you colour fans.....I know the subject matter is not the greatest, but you can't go past this sort of colour.

The Colour Continues......

After last weeks grey, foggy conditions, this week I'm getting an abundance of colour. This selection from Tuesday's evening big loop drive around Mt Warrenheip. The first 2 from the east side of the mountain, the 3rd is from a roadside dam right in the middle of Dunnstown that finally had some great light (I've been past many, many times!) with the finale at the often visited shed almost at the base of the hill. The colour continued for quite some time after these as I drove back into Ballarat.

The Monthly Moon

Every month around this time as the moon nears full, I start looking for ways to include the moon in my images. With all the excitement at Mt Warrenheip last night, I still managed to capture this view, looking away from the setting sun. The moon is full on Friday, the 13th.....wooooooooooo!!

Wow! Warrenheip Wonderland

On Monday I was treated to some very special conditions on the top of Mt Warrenheip. Initially I was planning to head north of Ballarat, however as soon as I got a glimpse of Mt Warrenheip I could see some low clouds floating around the peak...what made this quite unique was the sun was still shining very brightly. So I headed over to the mount, and as soon as I reached the top and jumped out of the car, I knew I had struck gold! I've been up the top many, many times and never had anything like this to witness. I was in a bit of a daze, pointing the camera everywhere as the conditions were constantly changing and swirling around me. Certainly a special one to remember, and a great example of why I keep heading out day after day - you just never know what your going to get!

Some Colour At Last

After a grey, foggy week, it was nice to get some colour out at Lake Burrumbeet on Sunday evening. Last time I was in this spot just a few weeks ago Pelican Island was joined to the shore by a sandbar, so its nice to see that the rain we have been getting, even though it hasn't been huge, is filling the lake up again. One thing I can tell you - these evening excursions are getting pretty chilly!

Windfarming Out West

On a grey, damp Saturday afternoon I took a drive out to the wind farm west of Ballarat, around Waubra. I spent some time around the Addington area and grabbed a couple of nice images, and managed to catch a dark and moody sunset at Lake Learmonth. It was nice to see here at the lake that the water level has actually increased a bit, a good sign for the lake's future. Obviously, in the last one, someone decided it wasn't worth trying to get out too much further!

Foggy Friday

As predicted Friday dawned with another foggy morn at Lake Wendouree. I spent a bit of time driving around looking for worthwhile images, and came home with quite a nice selection. Strangely, one half of the lake, the west side, was enveloped in very heavy fog....and only a few kms away the east side was quite clear. Lets face it....fog is always a great element to work with, adding a great mysterious element to an image.
