Reflecting at Lake Burrumbeet

On Sunday evening, the first day back to normal time after Daylight Saving ended, there was some terrific conditions for reflections in the water out at Lake Burrumbeet. The shutter speeds in these vary between 1/20th second and 1.6 seconds - all taken on a tripod for stability. A great example of looking for something just that little bit different, especially in a location that I have visited so often.
This makes it a week of shooting with the new camera (Canon 6D) and I gotta say I'm extremely happy with the results!

Westerly Views at Warrenheip

On Saturday I initially headed north out towards Creswick, but after looking around I realised there was more potential over towards Mt Warrenheip, so I changed direction and headed east where I ended up doing a few laps around Mt Warrenheip, and came home with a nice range of westerly views as the clouds put on quite a show.

Silo Set at Windermere

There was some really nice late evening light on Friday, so I headed out west to see what I could find. Just as I got out to Windermere the sun broke through beneath the clouds, so I quickly darted up this side road off the freeway to this set of silos. And then I moved on to Lake Burrumbeet, where things really started to get interesting …. to come next !

An Early, Grey Start

On Thursday evening I had a presentation to give at the Rosanna Photography Club in Melbourne, so I knew my opportunities would be limited for sunset, so I made an early visit up to Lake Wendouree here in Ballarat. It was very grey with no prospects of any interesting light - fortunately, as I was passing the Botanical Gardens I noticed the lights in the Conservatory building and thought this may be an nice alternative. William Wallace is on guard as you enter the gardens and added a nice touch to this image.
And the presentation went very well…my second year in a row at Rosanna, and there's talk of another visit next year.

The Mist is Back

After a number of warm, humid days here in Ballarat, in fact very high temperatures for this time of the year, on Wednesday it started to cool down, and late in the day this brought in the low lying misty conditions, and this is always a good time to head up to Mount Warrenheip where the low lying clouds always provides some nice conditions.

Lake Learmonth's Disappearing Act

Of all the lakes and reservoirs I visit in the Ballarat district, Lake Learmonth is the one that is feeling the effects of the lack of rainfall the most. The constantly receding shoreline gives me new opportunities, such as this series from Tuesday evening. Now that we are into the 2nd month of autumn, I'm sure the rain is on its way soon!
