Red and Green

Wet and grey here in Ballarat on Wednesday....looking close to home I found some green with a touch of red. Water droplets always look good, don't they?!

Following some great clouds around, Tuesday took me out around southern Lake Burrumbeet, passing through an area known as Bo Peep where I caught this nice angle on the creek, then a few snaps at the Lake through some eerie looking clouds, then a herd of cows on the horizon as the sun was just starting to disappear. Coming home via Windermere I detoured up a side road to get up a bit higher to catch the last colour in the sky out west.

Mondays Many Miles of Meandering

I covered a lot of miles on Monday before I found something worth stopping for, though I figured the long drive would be good for charging the car battery! Some fast moving clouds out near Glenbrae were letting through bursts of sunlight. Some big fogs around Mt Misery on the way home were just too heavy in the dying light to do much with, though by the time I'd made it back to Lake Learmonth some colour was firing up above the fog banks on the horizon. And then on the other side of the road to the lake, a couple of big bonfires were keeping the cattle warm.....mmmmm, that smelled good! Well worth clicking on these for a larger look.

Is it Birch Creek or Bullarook Creek?

On Sunday I went out past Creswick and Kingston to a spot on Birch Creek that has some nice flowing water. Yes, I've been here before and I always enjoy seeing how it changes from visit to visit. The good flow in the creeek and some vibrant greens made for some nice images. Wanting to specifically identify this location I did some research and on the Parks Victoria website this small creekside reserve is called Bullarook Creek SS. R. - now I'm confused! When I found out further I'll let you all know!

Another wet, grey day....and then......

I ran around Lake Wendouree around 3pm and it was wet and cold and looked likely to stay that way. So I decided once I got home to head off to Mt Warrenheip. You can usually find some nice low lowing mists up the top on this sort of day, though it was just too wet and miserable to really do much with. So I thought I'd just head home but a mile or so down the road I could see the clouds starting to break up a bit, did a u-turn and went back to the base of the mountain road to watch the horizon. Grabbed a couple of images and sat there for a while, then decided I'd drive around a bit. I was ready to go, but the car wasn't - flat battery! I'd left the lights on while sitting there (does anyone remember this happening earlier in the year?!!). Luckily I had my phone and the RACV number to call, and in pretty short time I was back on the road again. I did manage to capture the country road here when some brilliant sunshine came out whilst waiting to be rescued. Gotta say great service from the RACV!! With a suggestion from the RACV guy to drive around for at least 30 minutes to charge up the battery, I then managed to capture what were the best conditions of the whole trip.......mmmm, makes you wonder, doesn't it?

An Afternoon at Lake Wendouree

On Friday afternoon around 3.30pm a big rain squall came through Ballarat and I figured we could be on for some rainbows. So I jumped in the car and headed up to Lake Wendouree. I was only planning on a short visit, however I didn't head for home till after 5.30. Though it took a while for the really good conditions to arrive, I was patient and by keeping a close eye on the sky and clouds, and moving around the lake I came home with quite a variety of images. And whilst the first rainbow I did see when I first got up to the lake wasn't all that exciting, the one that came later on above the Fly Fishers Club and boatsheds was worth the wait. Sunset wasn't too bad, either! (Boy oh boy, was it cold by then!!)

The Windfarm Habit

I've just noticed that the wind farm out Waubra way has almost become a Thursday ritual....after last nights visit I checked back to find it was my third Thursday in a row. I rarely plan these trips, usually I go out side and check out the conditions and head off to where I thing my best chances are. And last night was a good call......though not looking all that promising, by the time I was out around the Mt Misery area there was some great breaks in the clouds letting through some fantastic light...the first 3 here from the one spot, then a little bit later on further down the road looking west.
