Thats A Lot of Canola!

I made a trip out to the canola fields around Smeaton on Saturday afternoon to show a couple of friends how I get my aerial images. Though it was quite windy, the conditions were bright and sunny, ideal for the amazing colour the fields are showing out there at the moment. As you can see from this view looking across to Mt Moorookyle and Mt Kooroocheang, thats a lot of canola!

Return to Lal Lal

Now that I know Lal Lal Falls is flowing nicely I couldn't resist a return visit on a reasonably calm Friday afternoon. I got in a lot closer this time for some great aerial views. And a burst of sunshine really lit up the gorge just as the battery was running down!
The last image here taken from ground level was an obvious black and white choice - that sky was epic!

Lal Lal Aerial

This image from Wednesday, was a big motivator in being able to get my camera up high.....to shoot Lal Lal Falls from above. It gives you a great overall impression of how the Lal Lal Creek cuts its way into the basalt to create the falls. I'll certainly be going back soon to get in closer to the actual falls as I know those images will be awesome!

Grey Conditions

Thursday was grey and cold here in Ballarat, not ideal conditions for landscape photography. Its usually a good idea on days like this to look for the smaller, more intimate style of image, and running water always works well in duller, overcast light. The Bo Peep Crrek out west of Ballarat runs into Lake Burrumbeet and is flowing a lot stronger than I have seen all year, a good sign that it will certainly help to fill in the lake before we get too close to Summer.

Back in Action

On Wednesday I made a trip with a friend down to Lal Lal and Granite Falls. I was very happy to see Lal Lal was flowing very nicely, a big surprise as I didn't think we'd had enough rainfall this winter. And Granite Falls was certainly showing a lot more water over its granite boulders, always a fantastic sight, especially down at ground level.
And the sunset at Lake Wendouree wasn't too bad, either!

Canola and Cows

After a scouting trip out to the canola fields on Saturday I was keen to get back out to the Smeaton district north of Ballarat and get above the fields. Tuesday was my first chance with some calm weather and its amazing what you see when you're above ground level looking across the fields. There's going to be some great opportunities over the next few weeks as the different areas reach their peaks. 
As I was coming home through Allendale this reflection caught my eye just as the sun was setting up some great clouds out to the east.

Mondays Madness in the Sky

After a clear, sunny day, on Monday the predicted clouds moved in around 4pm and by the time I was coming home from Sovereign Hill around 5.30 the skies were spectacular. I made a quick stop in Ascot Street to catch some fast moving formations and by the time I made it to Lake Wendouree it was almost out of this world. It always amazes me how a simple, clear blue sky sunny day can change so quickly, and dramatically, into something so awesome. We even had a few teasing lightning bolts thrown in for good measure!
